The Mammy, Dwarf Corkscrew or Fire Croton is perhaps the most popular and widely used cultivar in tropical and subtropical landscapes.  It is also a popular houseplant.

This croton has several very nice attributes that make it particular desireable and popular; first and foremost, it's vibrant, brilliant, firey color palette of deep burgundy red, yellow, orange, coppery brown and splashes of varied shades of green, add that to it's compact size, slow growth rate and interesting leaf shape and texture, and you have a nearly perfect, versatile landscape workhorse. The brilliant color is the basis for the common name of Fire Croton.

Mammy has rather narrow elongated finger sized leaves with an eye catching,  interesting,  twisted, ruffled appearance to the outer edge, which accounts for the alternative common name of Dwarf Corkscrew.   The pattern, definition and brightness of the color will vary seasonally, with the age of the leaves, as well as with variations in available light, temperature and nutrition.

It's uses in the landscape are only limited by the gardener's ability to provide cold protection for it, and imagination.  Use it as a filler in mixed beds, a low hedge, an accent or transition plant, mass planted for an impressive focal color statement.

Mammy, Dwarf Corkscrew or Fire Croton  is an excellent choice for potted culture.  It will adapt to low light levels (albiet color will be duller), is great low litter choice for porches, patios, and pool decks; makes a great addition to large mixed garden pots, or smaller dish gardens.
