Pittisporum variegatum or Variegated Pitt is a dense, tight growing, broadleafed, evergreen shrub with dense, compact growth habit and moderate rate of growth.

It has large, thick, gray green and cream variegated, whorled, elongated oval leaves with a leathery texture, and blooms in terminal sprays of sweetly fragrant white to cream single flowers in the Spring.

The most common use for this easy to grow and interesting plant is as a hedge, screen, boundary, or backdrop in tiered or layered beds as the variegated leaves bring interest through color and texture, even though the flowers are mostly nondescript except for the noteably sweet Spring-time fragrance.

Generally considered cold hardy within zones 8, 9, and 10, Variegated Pitt performs well in full sun to lightly shaded environments in zones 8 and 9, but generally does best when lightly sheltered from direct hot afternoon sun further South into Zone 10. It is frequently grown as a houseplant in colder zones. The long branches and interesting variegated color pattern make excellent filler and accents for floral arrangements.
