Quisqualis or Rangoon Creeper is a woody, fast, large growing vine that produces large, fragrant, very showy multi-colored clusters of flowers in hues of white, pink, red and maroon. It is widely cultivated as an ornamental through the tropics and subtropicsand grows wild across much of tropical Asia, India, Malaysia and the Phillipines. It is believed to have first been documented in horticultural literature by Dr. John Ivor Murray who set samples of nuts back to Edinburgh in the mid 1800s noting that the Chinese used the nut this plant produces as a treatment for intestinal parasites.

The Doubled Flora Plena cultivare of the Rangoon Creeper is a rare, hard to find hybrid that produces double flowers. It is more difficult to propagate, but readily grows and establishes once well rooted out.

The intoxicatingly fragrant flowers begin to appear as the nights climb into the high 60's and 70's and continue until they begin to fall back in the Fall. As the buds first open the flowers are white, so it's easy to wonder if perhaps a mistake was made with the purchase, but soon, as the petals age, they begin to change color, with the range of hues being a tell-tale indicator of the age of each petal.

It is a tendrilled, twining, climbing vine, so it's best placement includes a support for it to climb on. Although it can also be allowed to run and free flow down embankments and slopes to control run off and erosion. It is considered as a tropical, but frequently well established plants will be knocked back by cold in the norther ends of it's zone range and resprout from the root system.
