Sanibel Single Yellow Hibiscus is a vigorous, bushy growing tropical hibiscus cultivar that is suitable for growing in tropical and sub tropical landscapes or as a potted plant for the porch, poolside, or patio. It's also sometimes called Little Hula Girl, and incorrectly as Yellow Wing, which is a paler, more buttery buff colored flower and more open growing plant.

Left unpruned, Sanibel Yellow will reach a mature height of about 3' to 4', but is easy to maintain at lower heights. Frequent pruning is beneficial and helps the plant grower bushier and stronger.

The flowers are large, saucer sized, classic hibiscus flowers in bright, clear golden yellow, with an attractive contrasted dark rose red throat. Tropical Hibiscus Single Yellow Sanibel is a prolific and reliable repeat bloomer.

For the best results with Hibiscus Single Yellow Sanibel:

Direct planting of 4 inch diameter starter size pots is not recommended, for the best results, we suggest potting that size into a larger pot and allowing it to grow larger before setting out in the tropical landscape.

When the new pot has filled with roots and is ready to be planted, here are a few hints for successful growing within the recommended USDA Zone Range:

  • Plant in well draining, fertile, slightly acidic soil.  Amend planting area with high quality compost as needed.
  • Locate in the full sun
  • Prune for shape after flowering
  • Feed a good quality slow release bloom boosting plant food twice yearly
  • Protect from frost and freeze.
