Giant White is an old heirloom cultivar of unknown parentage, and is among the easiest and most rewarding to grow, and one we always recommended to new gardeners.  It is a quick grower that will attain heights of over 10 feet within just a few seasons, and frequently grows to be as wide as it is tall.  It blooms with extra large 8 to 10 inch white trumpets that begin as slightly pastel greenish yellow buds and age to solid white.  It is not only one of the most fragrant of our selection, but also has the longest lasting fragrance, becoming discernible at dusk and lasting until near dawn.

The plant is a quick, tall and wide grower, reaching a mature height of 10 to 12 feet, depending on climate easily within just a season or two.

Although plants with white flowers are sometimes overlooked and disregarded as being boring, this one is a grand execption, as it is truly spectacular when in full bloom.

For the best results with Brugmansia Angels Trumpet

Direct planting of 4 inch starter size plants is not recommended, so for the best results, we suggest potting into a larger pot and allowing the plant to grow a bit larger before setting it out.  When the new pot has filled with roots, here are a few hints for successful growing within the recommended Zone Range, which is generally considered to be 9, 10, 11 although some sources note that well established plants often freeze to the ground and resprout in colder zones.

Angels Trumpets can be successfully wintered over indoors with good care and attention.

  • Plant in well draining, fertile soil
  • Locate in lightly dappled shade
  • Prune lightly and often for shape when young.
  • Feed a good quality slow release plant food in the spring.
  • Protect from frost and freeze
