The Scarlet Flame Passion Vine is a hybrid cultivar from Passiflora vitifolia x P coccinea.  This vigorous, easy to grow cultivar was originally developed for Southern Californa, but also grows well in most other semi tropical to tropical locations. It lacks the cold hardiness of other types, and is recommended only as far north as Zone 9.   The flowers are showy and large and appear in abundance through the warm season in vibrant, clear, true, scarlet red.   The flowers are followed by an edible, but somewhat bland medium sized fruit with a somewhat bland sweet flavor similar to blackberries.

The flowers of the passion vine are powerful butterfly attractants make at least one a must have choice for serious butterfly garden enthusiasts, as well as an easy to grow attractant for the casual observer.
