The flowers of the Tropical Exotic Hibiscus Sea Spray are large fancy multi-toned single blooms averaging 7 to 8 inches across. They display multiple soft, pastel shades of lavender, blue, and mauve interspersed with random sprinkles and splashes of creamy white splashes (as though splashed by a foamy surf). The five broad, overlapping petals surround a ruby-rose-red throat. Like most exotic hybrid hibiscus, there is a very high degree of variability in the speckling on the petals, tone, depth, and distribution of the colors, dependent on temperatures, light exposure, humidity, nutrition, general care, and the inherent genetic instability of the species.

Flowers are borne on a strong, resilient plant (as compared to others in the exotic class). Although it can be grown planted in the ground in the tropics with conscientious monitoring and excellent consistent care, it will perform better, produce larger flowers, live longer and require less attention when grown as a well-tended potted plant.

As with nearly all of the hybrids, they require the full spectrum of light for 4 to 6 hours daily, but need protection from direct, hot, afternoon sun. The general recommendations for Exotic Hybrid Tropical Hibiscus are temperatures within [60-95°F (15-35°C)], ambient humidity within [a high range, as they prefer a humid environment]. They are recommended for USDA growing zones 9, 10 and 11, but require cold protection in all climates when temperatures are forecast to fall below 45°F.

Condition: This product is one (1) young, starter-sized plant intended for a gardener to grow to its mature size. You may expect a starter-size plant to be well-rooted, have a root zone of approximately 4 inches in diameter, be a minimum of about 6 to 8 inches tall, and have no blooms or buds on arrival. It may be shipped with or without a pot, as appropriate.
