Jasminimum nitidum (formerly Jaminimum Illicifolium) is commonly called Star, Shining, Windmill Jasmine or Angel Wing Jasmine.

This jasmine has been a favorite foundation planting in the tropics and semi tropics for several decades. It is quick to establish, a prolific warm season bloomer, tough , resilient and reasonably drought tolerant once well established. Matures as a large rounded bush generally, but will occasionally put out long streaming limbs that will wrap and climb. The broad pointed dark green leaves have a shiny, glossy texture that showcases the bright white flowers and adds interest during mid-winter when plants are not blooming.

Clusters medium sized, pointed, spiraled bud of dark burgundy pink begin to appear in early to mid-Spring and open into 2 inch blooms comprised of multiple separated elongated spear-shaped petals. It is a profuse, reliable, perpetual bloomer that generally has flowers on display throughout the warm season. Flowers have a very light fragrance that is most noticeable up close in the early morning and evening.

Star Jasmine grows in a wide range of soil conditions and has few pests. It is a semi-tropical species recommended for Zones 8, 9, 10, 11. It is generally considered root hardy in Zone 8 when well established. Plants in Zones 8 and 9A should be mulched heavily well ahead of first frost.

Condition: This product is one (1) young, starter-sized plant intended for a gardener to grow to its mature size. You may expect a starter-size plant to be well-rooted, have a root zone of approximately 4 inches in diameter, be a minimum of about 6 to 8 inches tall, and have no blooms or buds on arrival. It may be shipped with or without a pot, as appropriate.
