Hostas or Plantain Lilies are a great way to brighten shady nooks and corners.   An amazing array of green and variegated leaved varieties can grow across various climates ranging from USDA zones 3-9.    They typically need at least 30 days of winter dormancy at temperatures below 43°F.   When planting in warmer climates, it is important to check the Zone rating, as Hostas that perform best have lower-than-normal winter dormancy requirements and better tolerance for heat and summer rain. Most can tolerate very hot summer temperatures for short periods of time but may become dormant above 95°F due to heat or too much water. 

The Rainforest Sunrise Hosta is a beautiful, wide-leaved, short-growing hosta with wonderful color and texture. The leaves emerge a solid medium green and then develop a golden yellow-green center with a darker green margin. It matures at about 10 to 12 inches tall with an 18 to 24-inch spread and is recommended for USDA Zones 3 through 9. 

In early to mid-summer, it produces pale lavender to white flowers atop tall stems that extend a foot or two above the plant's body. The flowers are an added bonus to the lovely foliage and are attractive to pollinators. 

Rainforest Sunrise is a relatively slow-growing hosta that requires very little care once established and has many versatile uses in light to moderate shade. It can be mass-planted, used as a border or accent, or grown as a potted plant. During the warm season, it can be grown as a house plant but must be moved to an environment with temperatures below 43*F during its winter dormancy.   Plants die back to the ground during the winter and emerge in the Spring in all climates.
