Juniperus chinensis 'Shimpaku' or Blue Shimpaku Juniper is an upright, slow growing plant that is commonly used for bonsai. It is grown primarily for its steely-blue foliage that remains beautiful year-round. Slow to reach maturity, Blue Shimpaku Juniper can take over 10 years to reach its mature height of 3 ft. Beginning their growth as a slender upright tree, juvenile specimens make for excellent holiday décor and are easily maintained throughout the year.

Blue Shimpaku Juniper will thrive in soil types from sandy to clay though it will require adequate drainage to prevent root rot. Like most junipers, this variety is resistant to door and other wildlife as well as moderately salt tolerant. As this small tree's stem matures it will display characteristic flaking bark that peels away to reveal fresh red-orange hued stems underneath. Junipers will grow most successfully outdoors though they will tolerate indoor cultivation temporarily if desired.

Condition: One (1) Well rooted, starter size plant growing and shipped in a 1 quart volume plastic pot. Plant will be a minimum of about 10 to 12 inches tall and unlikely to have bloom or bud at the time of shipping.
