Boyette's Weeping Bottlebrush is a derivative of Callestimon viminalis which is a moderately fast growing flowering tree that produces very showy, unique and usually shaped vivid scarlet, tufted red flowers. In general, the species is fast growing, low maintenance, trees that mature between 10 and 15 feet in height.

Boyette's was discovered as a serendipitous seedling at a Southwest Florida Nursery in the early 70s. It was selected for its short, compact and very dramatic weeping growth habit, displaying long flexible, rope-like limbs falling vertically around the trunk and hanging to the ground, and smaller but brighter and more prolific red flowers born at the terminal ends of the branches, and a longer than average bloom cycle.

The flowers are nectar rich, and so are a powerful attractant for butterflies and hummingbirds making it a great choice for Butterfly Gardens and other wildlife habitats. Its small stature and easy care makes it well suited for small urban lots.

Plant in fertile, well-draining soil in a location that receives at least 6 to 8 hours of bright, direct full spectrum light daily. Adequate irrigation to maintain soil moisture is essential. Feed a high quality, bloom-boosting fertilizer annually in the Spring. Requires little pruning once established as it produces scant viable seed, so removal of spent flowers is not required.

It somewhat less cold hardy than the species, so recommended Zone Range is somewhat smaller at 8B-9,10, 11. Mature plants within the recommended Range can withstand brief exposure to frost and temperatures below freezing in average seasonal conditions. However, cold protection is recommended for the best overall appearance, earliest bloom and longest life.
