Cocculus laurifolius or Laurel Leaved Snailseed Tree is typically seen in cultivation as a slow growing ornamental. This unique tree is native to Japan and China. While these trees may reach up to 25 ft. tall in nature, it typically grows as a small, very dense tree in cultivation.

The leaves of the Laurel Leaved Snailseed are a dark olive green with three prominent nerves down the center. During Summer and early Fall, this tree will bloom with inconspicuous yellow flowers that mature into deep blackish-purple berries.

The history of this plant is quite interesting; in its home regions, its chemical properties have been utilized to sedate fish in lakes and streams so they may be easily captured. With this in mind, it is important to keep children and pets distant from the Laurel Leaved Snailseed Tree.
