Crapemyrtles (Crape Myrtle, Crepe Myrtle) were introduced into landscape cultivation in the southern United States about 150 years ago. These colorful deciduous trees quickly became popular additions to southern landscapes. Although some do grow as far north as Baltimore, Maryland, these are exceptions as the species overall is best suited for warmer climates, typically Zone 7B, 8, 9, 10

Peppermint Lace is significantly smaller growing than many Crape Myrtles, making it a very desirable small-statured tree for urban plantings. The long-lasting bloom cycle begins a few weeks after plants emerge from winter dormancy and lasts until late summer to early fall. The bark will develop an attractive grey, green peeling texture as the plant matures and ages, which makes an attractive and interesting visual display even when the trees are bare in the winter.

Crape Myrtle Peppermint Lace, is a smaller growing crapemyrtle bush with pretty pink and white variegated flowers. It will reach a mature height of about 6 to 10 feet, but can be pruned smaller or even grown as a hedge. They can be grown as large garden pots as well. Crapemyrtles are best suited for outdoor growing. They require special accommodations when grown indoors or in bonsai forms.
