RED MANDARIN HAT Rare Live Plant Unique Red Blooms Vine-Like Growth Habit Holmskioldia sanguinea Starter Size 4 Inch Pot Emerald Tm

Mandarin Hat (Holmskioldia sanguine) is a stunning and unusual semi-tropical plant that is native to tropical and semi tropical Asia, and a must have for those who want something a little different.

It is not a true vine, as it does not put out tendrils that will wrap and climb a support.  Instead its growth habit is very loose, open and vine-like in that it puts out very long streaming branches that can be tied and trained to trellises or other support.

The botanical name sanguinea is from the latin word for blood, and so, the flower is a bright scarlet blood red.  Flowers are tightly clustered along the branch and resembles upside down chinese hats or cups in saucers.  It blooms several times yearly with the heaviest bloom appearing in the late spring and fall. There are cultivars in other colors, including an orange and yellow. The blood red cultivar is the most highly prized.
