Florida Flame Vine (Pyrostegia venusta or ignea) is an easy to grow vine and is an ideal choice for quick cover, and provides truly spectacular, and literal traffic stopping show of color. It is also known as Orange Trumpet Creeper, Golden Shower Vine, and Hanging Fire Vine

Flame Vine blooms in the mid to late spring with hanging boughs of tubular trumpet shaped flowers in vibrant orange. It can be formed and trained over or around most any support, and attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. It can be used to create amazing Spring focal points when grown over a pergola, arbor, entry arch, fence line, trellis, H Support, or against a blank wall as an espalier.

Virtually care free when mature, it is oddly it is difficult to propagate, and requires more than the average amount of monitoring and attention while young and becoming established. After the initial adaptation phase, it will grow vigorously, gaining several feet within a single season. It seems to actually prefer poor sandy soils, is drought tolerant once well established, and rarely needs fertilizer or spraying. Once established, care and maintenance becomes more focused more on controlling and limiting growth to the designated planting area, and planning maintenance to maximize the next bloom cycle than caring for the plant.

For the best results within the recommended Zone Range (9B, 10, 11) grow as a potted plant in light shade in a coarse, well-draining media until the root zone matures. Once the plant has matured and is ready to be set out, the best permanent planting location is one that receives the full spectrum of bright direct light at least 4 to 6 hours daily. Water sufficiently to maintain soil moisture, but take care not to over water. Fertilizing once with a good quality, slow-release bloom-boosting fertilizer with the intitial planting is typically adequate for an extended time. Re-feed only as needed, adding excess nitrogen will result in fewer blooms during the next cycle. Spotting and discoloration of leaves in late summer and early fall is a part of the normal growth habit, and not a sign of any plant problem requiring treatment.

Condition: This product is one (1) young, starter-sized plant intended for a gardener to grow to its mature size. You may expect a starter-size plant to be well-rooted, have a root zone of approximately 4 inches in diameter, be a minimum of about 6 to 8 inches tall, and have no blooms or buds on arrival. It may be shipped with or without a pot, as appropriate.
