Morus alba 'Unryu' or Contorted Mulberry is a stunning tree native to Japan. When it begins to bloom in mid to late summer its twisted branches become covered in delicate small yellow flowers bearing the promise of fruit. The fruits of the White Mulberry begin as small clusters of tiny white fruit and develop to resemble the shape of a blackberry. When fruit ripens, these white berries will turn blush pink and land at a light violet to indicate they are ready for harvest.

The twisting branches of this tree make it a beautiful ornamental addition to gardens even in cool weather when leaves are sparse. Contorted Mulberry grows quickly to reach heights upwards of 25 feet and spreads horizontally to a diameter often larger than its height. These trees do not require frequent pruning to remain beautiful, but they can be trimmed vigorously as needed to contain growth and prevent overcrowding.
