Carolina Midnight Lorapetalum is a showstopper in every sense. When not in bloom, it adds visual interest with delicate deep purple foliage. As Winter comes to a close copious hot pink fringed blooms line nearly every stem. This majestic slow-growing plant is a often used in large hedges and acts as an excellent focal piece.

This plant does best in full sun or with afternoon shade in extremely warm climates. Take care to avoid planting in heavy shade though as this can cause foliage to take on a greenish hue and fewer blooms will be produced. Lorapetalum is slow to mature and will take a while to become established, but once it does it will need annual pruning to remain contained and structured. It is best to prune in late Spring or early Summer once the season's blooms have expired.

Carolina Midnight is often grown in tree form as well as in hedges. It is easy to maintain in tree form and makes for a very interesting statement plant.
