Caricature Jamaican Croton White Variegated Graptophyllum Tropical Indoor Outdoor Live Plant

Graptophyllum pictum is a colorful, interesting, fast growing soft stemmed, tropical perennial species that is native to Southeast Asia. There are a number of different cultivars. The common name of Caricature Plant comes from the interesting pictures that can be imagined when contemplating the pattern of the variegation.

Graptophyllum pictum alba variegatum is an interesting and easy to grow variety with large mat textured, prominent veined leaves characterized by variegated mottling that is the common feature of the species in varying shades of gray toned green and creamy white. White Jamaican Croton, Green Caricature Plant and Key West Snow are common names. It is a fast growing plant with a loose, upright, bushy habit.

In a tropical landscape it can be utilized as a background in mixed beds, as it will reach a mature height of around 6 feet fairly quickly, and requires little more than the most basic care. In colder zones it can be grown as an annual, a seasonal potted plant, or permanent houseplant. Graptophyllums are grown primarily for the interesting colored foliage. They do produce white to pinkish red flowers randomly.

The best placement for the Caricature Plant is in very light shade. However it can be grown in full sun, but has high water requirements in that setting. Plants should be pruned lightly and often to control height, maintain shape and avoid legginess.
