Oyster Plant (Transdescantia spathacea) is a dwarf, low growing, clumping, tropical herbaceous perennial with brightly variegated linear, pointed, strap leaves in olive green tones with a purple underside. It matures at a height of no more than 8 to 12 inches and spreads out laterally by forming new offshoots from the roots, and performs best in lightly dappled shade.

Oyster Plant is also referred to as Moses in a Basket due to its unique leaf shape. As new leaves emerge from the center of the plant, the are tightly bunched into a boat or cradle shape.

Oyster Plant works well for borders, mass planting under trees, filler in mixed perennial shade garden beds, or can be grown as an outdoor or indoor potted plant, although it may require supplemental lighting indoors to maintain the most vibrant color .
