4 inch Pots - Mature, well rooted starter size plant, growing and shipped in a 4 inch diameter plastic pot. Plant will be a minimum of about 10 inches tall. Unlikely to have bloom or bud at the time of shipping.
Plumbago or Cape Leadwort is native to South Africa. It is an upright shrub with a somewhat climbing habit that will easily reach heights of 6 to 8 feet if left unpruned. It benefits greatly from frequent regular pruning, especially at the end of each bloom cycle.
Plumbago plant is a perpetual bloomer, cycling into flower through out the year. When in bloom, it is covered with clusters of phlox shaped blooms and gives a very light airy summer time, easy living feel. It is very versatile plant and will grow and thrive in a wide range of conditions.
Plumbago is reasonably salt tolerant and is suitable for seaside plantings, and will tolerate light shade but may not bloom as heavily. It is easy to grow and becomes established quickly. Plumbagos are somewhat drought tolerant and will survive through periods of dry weather, however, growth, density, bloom and overall vigor will suffer.
Plumbago performs best with adequate uniform irrigation available. For the dense green growth and the brightest color blooms, fertilize 3-4 times per year with a good quality slow release bloom boosting fertilize. The Imperial Blue is an improved, selected cultivar with a brighter and more saturated tone of blue, and slightly larger flowers, than the older pastel blue that was typical of the species.
