Medinillas are a type of epiphytic flowering shrub native to tropical Africa, Asia and the Pacific Islands. Medinilla myriantha is one of about 200 different species. It is commonly called Malaysian Orchid or Malaysian Grape as the end stage of the flower resembles a cluster of small grapes. In Australia it is called Pink Pixi.

This pretty tropical shrub is a great choice for lightly shaded areas in a tropical landscape, or as a potted or houseplant, its' frequent blooming and full bushy growth habits make it an interesting and rewarding plant to grow. The flowers begin in elongated sprays of small pale pink to lavender rounded petals that gradually darken in color to shades of magenta pink and purple and close to form a pendulous hanging cluster of small berry like nodules that hang among large elongated pointed leaves with a slightly rough texture in a beautiful shade of medium green with moss to olive undertones. The bloom cycle takes several weeks to complete, and appears frequently year round. The berry/grape like bloom structures are not edible.
