This cultivar, Morning Mist, is an uncommon and lesser known cultivar that is sometimes confused with Imperial Delight.  Although the flowers are somewhat similiar, there are distinct differences.

Morning Mist tends to bloom in distinct cycles, with the heaviest bloom periods in the late spring and early fall.  The bracts are creamy white with a delicate pale pinkish lavender edge that blends into the body of the bract as though it was airbrushed on.   The effect is muted, delicate, elegant, romantic, cool, and restful.

Morning Mist Lavender takes a longer to become established than some other varieties, but it is well worth the wait.  It takes about 2 years for the plant to become well established and for its full opulent splendor to be appreciated.

It is nearly thornless on the new growth, but will develop substantial thorns on old canes.  The growth habit is dense and tight, and although it will eventually obtain height of about 6 feet left to its on devices. It is also a good choice for planters, hanging baskets, and garden pots.

Handle your new plant carefully, as all bougainvilleas have a somewhat fragile root system where the roots join the central stalk.  Cutting the plastic pot away to keep the root ball intact and not tugging on the central stalk is the best way to plant.

  • Plant in loose soil that drains quickly and well. Loosen and amend the planting area with high quality compost as needed.  Bougainvilleas will not survive in dense, tightly compacted or wet soil conditions.
  • Allow bougainvilleas to dry between watering. Water needs are minimal. Take care not to over water.
  • Feed a good quality slow release bloom boosting (high potassium) fertilize with the initial planting and twice yearly thereafter in the early spring and early fall.
  • Prune lightly after each bloom cycle to control size and for the earliest rebloom.
  • Protect from frost and freezing.
