Tabebuia Ipe Pink Trumpet Flowering Tree Live Plant Impetiginosa Tropical Showy Flowers Spring Bloom Starter Size 4 Inch Pot Emerald TM …

Tabebuia Impetiginosa (recently reclassed as Handroanthus impetiginosus), or Ipe, as it is commonly called, is a small growing semi-tropical, deciduous, flowering tree . It is a beautiful and popular flowering tree that is native to South America. Other common names are Purple Trumpet Tree, Purple Lapacho, Pau D Arco, and Tecoma.

These trees put on a show for about three to 4 weeks in late winter to early spring that is simply unmatched. It will shed the leaves when nights dip into the low 40s and then typically in mid February to early March it bursts forth in a glorious display of profuse and densely packed pastel lavender tinted pink trumpets with canary yellow and ruby red striped throats. The flowers cover the entire branch canopy of the tree for a long bloom period that is typically lasts 21 days.

The flowers are followed by long glossy seed pods that sometimes continue to hang well into the next season. New leaves appear quickly after the flowers have shed and by early summer the canopy will be fully flushed and able to provide good shade.

Tabebuia Impetiginosa matures rapidly, growing at a rate of 2-4 feet per year until reaching about 20 feet tall, thereafter growth slows considerably, making this cultivar well suited for small lots and other urban uses.
