Crapemyrtle Ebony Embers Red Flowering Purple Black Foliage Tree Shrub Live Crepe Crape Myrtle Plant Starter Sz 4

The Ebony series of Crepe Myrtles was developed by Cecile Pounders and first introduced a few years ago. This group of plants was bred for their disease resistance and unique, consistently colored, dark burgundy-purple, to almost black foliage . Ebony Embers produces brilliant, true red flowers during the late summer, which provide vivid and interesting contrast. Large clusters of hundreds of 1/2 inch florets that have the crinkled consistency of crepe paper, called panicles or racemes, develop on the terminal ends of the upright branches. The range of available colors has increased every year since its first introduction to now include white, pink, and purple. These interesting, colorful trees begin to break their dormancy in the early spring. However, trees in the Ebony series tend to be late-season bloomers, generally flowering in late July, August, and early September, but the striking dark colored foliage provides color and interest throughout the warm season. When mature, plant Crape Myrtles outdoors in fertile, well-draining soil. Water as needed to maintain soil moisture. Feed a good-quality, slow-release, general-purpose fertilizer with initial planting and annually in spring as plants begin to break dormancy. Prune in late summer to early fall after flowering. Avoid pruning near or during dormancy or in spring when plants begin to sprout to avoid cutting away the next season's blooms. Avoid overwatering during dormancy. The recommended Zone Range for Ebony Embers Crape Myrtle is USDA Growing Zones 7B, 8, 9, 10A. Please note this plant does not perform well outside of the recommended Zone Range, nor does it adapt to indoor growing conditions.
