Chocolate Swirl Allamanda is an old Allamanda that first appeared in the Florida Landscape Market in the late 1980s and was quite popular, but has largely disappeared from the market as the large corporate chain store garden centers began to dominate the trade. It has since become quite rare and hard to find. The plant requires little care and thrives in hot humid weather, but actually prefers light filtered shade. It is smaller in stature and grows more slowly than most of the species. The growth habit is loose and vine-like, with long arching canes . It can be trained to a support or grown as a free flowing bush. It's a little slow to mature and reach it's full blooming potential, but well worth the wait. Beautiful soft, muted, creamy chocolate toned mauve flowers begin to unfurl form big brown and pink buds as night temps rise into the 70s and the days get longer. The medium sized bell shaped flowers first open as a pale chocolate toned pink with yellow undertones and slowly darken over several days to a darker mauve pink, showing a distinctive 'swirl' of dark chocolate pink on the reverse. as the flower ages. Bloom cycle begins in the early summer and lasts until the days get shorter and nights get cooler. In the late Fall it will drop some leaves and stop producing flowers, shed some foliage and rest thru the winter. Performs well as a potted plant and is an excellent choice for small trellises. Product is a live plant sold for ornamental use only. Not subject to California Proposition 65 Warning Label Requirements. Incidental components such as potting media and packaging are labeled on the package as may be required when shipped to California.
