Allamanda cathcartica hendersoni or Brown Bud Allamanda is native to South America but has been cultivated as an ornamental plant worldwide for many years.

It is a fast-growing tropical perennial that thrives in tropical to semi-tropical climates. Although commonly called a vine, the plant is not a true climbing tendrilled vine. However, the limbs are long and flexible. While the Brown Bud Allamanda can be grown simply as a large, free-flowing bush, it is typically tied and trained to a trellis, fence, or other support.

The flowers begin as large, fat point buds in a deep golden caramel color (i.e., the common name Brown Bud) and open into large bells of sunny, golden yellow. It is a prolific, reliable bloomer throughout the warm season.

Allamandas go semi-dormant in winter, enter a resting phase, and do not grow significantly throughout winter. This is a normal characteristic of the species. They need high light but need less water, especially when overwintered indoors.
