Scarlet Flame is a well-known and popular tropical Passiflora hybrid from Passiflora vitifolia x Passiflora coccinea that produces a profusion of unique flowers in bright, true red, with a white crown fringed in short red filaments. Blooms are lightly fragrant, nectar-rich, attractive to hummingbirds and a variety of pollinators. It is primarily grown for its vigorous, easy-care habit and beautiful flowers. While it can set fruit, it typically requires hand pollination. Useful as a nectar source, not a recommended or preferred host plant, and may be contraindicated for some butterfly species.

It is a vigorous, large-growing vine that requires a large space and regular pruning after flowering to maintain size and control sprawling into areas where it is not wanted. However, this same characteristic makes it an excellent choice for a quick, easy care cover for a fence, trellis, or other support.

Scarlet Flame is primarily grown for its fast-growing, easy-care habit and beautiful flowers. However, it can set fruit if another type of passion vine is close by, but it usually requires hand pollination. It can be grown in most well-draining soils, and unlike most passion vines, it can thrive in full sun or shade. However, leaves and flowers will be larger and deeper in color in a lightly shaded location.

Indoor Growing: Most Passiflora Vines can be grown indoors, but may require substantial modifications to increase light, temperature, and humidity to produce flowers. However, to grow indoors, plant in a pot with good drainage, locate in bright, indirect light, and take care not to overwater. A small trellis can provide necessary support. Misting the leaves can help maintain the humidity. Plants grown indoors rarely produce fruit. Scarlet flame is a large, agressive grower that may quickly become too big for the average indoor space.
