Carolina Midnight - Lorapetalum hybrid Live Shrub Plant - Red Purple Leaf - Pink Flower - Starter Size 4 Inch Pot

The genus Loropetalum, commonly known as Chinese Fringe Flower, is a group of evergreen shrubs and small trees belonging to the witch-hazel family (Hamamelidaceae). The genus contains four distinct species, with Loropetalum chinensis being the most well-known and commercially cultivated. The plants are prized for their slow growth, dense, colored foliage, and vibrant pink flowers. Many cultivars have been selected for specific interesting characteristics.

Carolina Midnight is a select cultivar that is a showstopper in every sense. When not in bloom, it adds visual interest with delicate, deep burgundy-purple foliage. Beginning in late winter to early spring, copious hot pink fringed blooms line nearly every stem. This majestic, slow-growing plant is often used in large hedges, boundaries, background, or screen plantings. It may also be grown as an outdoor potted plant.

Care: When mature, plant in fertile, well-draining soil or potting media in full sun. Water as needed to maintain consistent soil moisture, but avoid overwatering. Feed a good quality, slow-release, bloom-boosting fertilizer with the initial planting and annually in spring thereafter. Prune after flowering to control size and shape. Avoid pruning in winter and spring to avoid cutting away bud wood.

Indoor Growing: Yes, but planning for mature size and modifications such as higher temperatures and/or supplemental lighting may be necessary to maintain leaf color and produce flowers indoors.

Climate: Recommended for USDA Zones 7, 8, 9

Condition: This product is one (1) young, starter-sized plant intended for a gardener to grow to its mature size. It may be shipped with or without a pot, as appropriate.
