Cele Tinney is an old heirloom hybrid tropical hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa seninsis). It was hybridized by Jack Clark of Auckland Australia and was registered in 1969.
Cele Tinney is an outstanding example of the best of the early hybrids as it is a strong, upright growing plant with a sturdy resilient root system. It grows well on it's own roots, and does not require grafting, and can be successfully grown in ground in a tropical to semi-tropical landscape with adequate care and cold protection. or as a potted plant.
Flowers are delicate creamy tones of pastel and medium pink,, creamy white and a sometimes faint yellow blush. Blooms are large full ruffled doubles with a twisted crest rising from the center. As with all flowers of the species, bloom color and shape can vary based on temperatures, light. Plants will sometimes produce random flowers that may be different. These are called sports and are also a common characteristic of the species.
Leaves are large with an interesting crinkled texture. Lower compact grower, will tolerate light shade.
