The Tropical Hibiscus Dragons Child is a recent hybrid introduction by Emerald Goddess Gardens(R) and is sold exclusively by Emerald Goddess Gardens(R).

It is a member of the Exotic Fancy class of Hibiscus, resulting from a serendipitous cross between Black Dragon and an unknown pollen parent. Flowers are large 8 to 10-inch fancy singles in shades of deep blood red to orange-toned scarlet with purple-toned red striations radiating from a deep black/red center, with a white reverse, and a slightly ruffled edge; flower color varies depending on temperatures, light, humidity, and age of the flower. Blooming occurs in recurring cycles throughout the year and is born at the terminal ends of branches on a sturdy, upright-growing plant clad in deep green, glossy, smooth-textured, rounded oval leaves

It has a strong and reasonably resilient root system that is superior to its delicate pod parent, Black Dragon, and can be successfully grown on its own roots and does not require grafting. It benefits from frequent pruning after flowering to build interior branching and prevent top-heaviness. Although it can be successfully grown in the landscape in warm climates, it will perform better, produce larger flowers, and live much longer as a well-tended potted plant.

This one can be a bit fussy, so take care to produce from the direct hot sun, avoid overwatering, and protect from frost and freeze.

Condition: One (1) well-rooted, starter-size plant with an approximate 4-inch-diameter root zone. Plant will be a minimum of about 6 to 12 inches tall and have no blooms or buds on arrival.
