RED SHRIMP Heirloom Shade Garden Live Plant Justicia Unusual Flower Attracts Butterflies Hummingbirds Starter Size 4 Inch Pot Emeralds TM

Shrimp Plants (Justicia brandegeana) are a part of the plant family of the Justicias, which is a very big species, and has lots of interesting cultivars. Of the Shrimp types (Justicias) the red variety is probably the most popular and well known.

Shrimp Plants work great in mixed perennial beds, borders or any other pot where you want a mass of continuous color.

The bloom cycle is long; beginning in the early spring and lasting until early winter in tropical climates.  They lend great interest, texture and color; are  easy to grow, providing lots of reward for little effort,

Shrimps make a great addition to any garden setting. They can be grown outdoors in Zones 9, 10, 11 with protection from the occasional frosty morning, or grown indefinitely as potted plants, and makes a wonderful and thoughtful gift.

Butterflies and Hummingbirds will feed on most all the types, but the red seems to be the favorite of the Hummingbirds.

The growth habit is fast, upright, with a tendency to become top heavy a leggy, which can be remedied by frequent pruning after flowering. Shrimp plants are very brittle and some minor breakage during transit is often unavoidable. They are, however, also very resilient and bounce back from pruning, whether intentional or accidental , quickly.
