Tropical Exotic Hibiscus Madame Dupont produces an exceptionally large fancy multi toned single flower in shades of lavender blue, mauve and rose red. The flowers are large, averaging 7 to 8 inches across, with a graduated lavender to mauve body fading into a pinwheeled rose red throat.
Hibiscus in the blue and lavender shades have always been among the most coveted colors, but often the plants were weak, spindly, and fussy. Although Madame Dupont is a bit finicky in some respects, it is a vast improvement over most of the earlier introductions in this color range. While it is not the easiest or most carefree, the exceptional size and color of the flower make it well worth the extra effort.
The large 7 to 8 inch blooms of Madame Dupont grace an erect, upward-growing bush with large, glossy, slightly pointed oval leaves. Although it can be grown and planted in the ground in the tropics with very good care, it will perform better, produce larger flowers, and live much longer as a well-tended potted plant.
Care: This plant performs best as a well-tended potted plant. It requires good quality, well-draining, slightly acidic, high-quality potting media, the full spectrum of bright indirect light daily, but should be protected from the hot, direct afternoon sun. It thrives in warm temperatures between 70*F-90°F with a minimum10°F night/day difference, and high humidity (60%−80%). Maintain consistent moisture in the media, but avoid overwatering.
Indoor Growing: Exotic Tropical Hibiscus do not adapt easily to indoor growing environments due to their specific needs for light, humidity, and temperature fluctuations. Successful indoor cultivation will require significant modifications to an average growing space. Many gardeners grow tropical hibiscus outside of their recommended Zone Range. This can be fun and rewarding, but adaptation to indoor growing conditions can be challenging.
Climate: Hibiscus rosa-sinensis are tropical plants recommended for outdoor growing within USDA Growing Zones 9, 10, 11. Cold protection is required in all Zones for optimum appearance, earliest flowering, and best overall plant health. fancy flower hibiscus]
