Jasmine Florida Gardenia Crepe Crape Live Semi-Tropical Plant Tabernaemontana Divaricata Flore Pleno Starter Size 4 Inch Pot

Tabernaemontana divaricata 'Flore Pleno' is also commonly called Florida Gardenia or Crape (Crepe) Jasmine. However, it is not a Gardenia or a Jasmine. The plant is in the Apocynaceae Plant Family. The misnaming comes from the similarly shaped white flowers and the light fragrance similar to true Jasmine.

The Florida Gardenia is an easy-to-grow and rewarding tall-growing, old heirloom flowering shrub that is the perfect choice for lighting up lightly shaded nooks and corners. It is a long-lived plant that requires only basic care to thrive and can frequently be found growing unattended on old home sites. Delicate, pure white, very lightly fragrant semi-double flowers begin to appear in the early summer and decorate the large, open, tree-like 5 to 7 ft bush until mid Fall.

It can be grown in full sun but performs best in light shade, plantied in slightly acidic, well-draining soil or media, and to be kept consisently moist, but not overly saturated. Growth rate is moderate, requiring a few seasons to mature and reach its full blooming potential.

Best uses include feature points, transitions, accents, background for layered or mixed perennial beds, or as a large outdoor garden pot.

Florida Gardenia requires high light, warm temperatures with a day/night differential, and high humidity. It does not adapt easily to indoor growing conditions.

Semi-Tropical. Recommended for Zones 8B, 9, 10, 11. Considered root hardy in 8B once well established. Cold Protection is recommended in all Zones for the longest life, best year round appearance and earliest bloom.

Tabernaemontana species are tropical and recommended for USDA zones 9, 10, and 11. Cold protection is recommended in all zones for optimal appearance, earliest flowering, and overall plant health.
