Hibiscus rosa seninsis or Tropical Hibiscus are attractive flowering tropical shrubs that have perhaps the largest variation of bloom color as any species, as there are literally thousands with new hybrids constantly being introduced.

One of the more interesting and unique hybrids is El Capitolo, also known as Lion's Tail, Pom-Pom or Poodle Tail. The original hybrid is thought to be from Hibiscus schizopetalus crossed with an unknown parent.

The flower is unusual, with a main body of consisting of five single ruffled petals with another smaller double pom-pom like flower hanging from a long stamen. The original hybrid is red, with a peach orange and a pale apricot yellow appearing later as random genetic mutations (called sports) from the red. The apricot yellow flower is the more rare and hard to find of the group.

The unique flowers are born on a strong, sturdy bush with a vigorous upright growth habit. Leaves are dark green with burgundy veins and sharply serrated edges. The plant is resilient and long lived. It is often found growing wild on abandoned lots and homesteads..

Condition: This product is one (1) young, starter-sized plant intended for a gardener to grow to its mature size. You may expect a starter-size plant to be well-rooted, have a root zone of approximately 4 inches in diameter, be a minimum of about 6 to 8 inches tall, and have no blooms or buds on arrival. It may be shipped with or without a pot, as appropriate.
