They were first noted in botanical literature from the 17th Century, discovered by South American Priests who attributed great religious significance to the characteristics of the beautiful and unusual flowers, giving them the name "La Flor de las cinco Llagas," or the 'Flower of the Five Wounds.'

Ruby Glow is a tropical species of Passiflora that is a fast, vigorous grower. It quickly establishes into a dense, lush vine that typically begins flowering when young and requires only basic care to thrive. Flowers are an exceptionally large and beautiful version of the unique to the species bloom in a deep purple-toned maroon-red with sharply contrasted, long violet-blue and white filaments. It can produce fruit but requires pollination by another type of passion vine.

For optimal growth, plant your passion flower in a partial-shade location with fertile, well-draining soil and a large trellis for support. Water deeply, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings to avoid spindly growth. Fertilize with a quality, bloom-boosting fertilizer in the spring, and prune as needed after flowering to control its size.

Ruby Glow is a tropical Passiflora generally recommended for USDA Growing Zones 9, 10 & 11. Cold protection is recommended in all Zones for the best year-round appearance, earliest bloom, and longest life.

Indoor Growing: Most Passiflora Vines can be grown indoors, but may require substantial modifications to increase light, temperature, and humidity to produce flowers. To grow indoors, place the plant in a pot with good drainage and position it in bright, indirect light, and take care not to overwater. A small trellis can provide necessary support. Misting the leaves can help maintain the humidity. Plants grown indoors rarely produce fruit.
