The Fairy Petticoat Tree or Elaeocarpus grandiflora is a tropical tree known for its ability to grow to 90 ft in its native region of Indochina. When blooming, the Fairy Petticoat Tree becomes laden with flowers and that begin to droop under the weight of fruit.

The Fairy Petticoat Tree requires full sun and moderate watering until established. Once established, the tree can tolerate some levels of drought, but will thrive with regular watering.

With its gigantic growth habit, the Fairy Petticoat is easily trimmed to meet a variety of landscaping needs. Its limbs can be trimmed frequently to form a beautiful boundary hedge or lightly pruned to encourage a ball shaped canopy at the top of the tree.

The fruits this tree produces are edible, but taste bitter. Further, this plant has been recognized as having several ethnobotanical uses. The bitter tree bark of the Fairy Petticoat Tree has been prescribed in the past to treat ulcers and female diseases.

Condition: This product is one (1) young, starter-sized plant intended for a gardener to grow to its mature size. You may expect a starter-size plant to be well-rooted, have a root zone of approximately 4 inches in diameter, be a minimum of about 6 to 8 inches tall, and have no blooms or buds on arrival. It may be shipped with or without a pot, as appropriate.
