Durantas are native to tropical regions of North America and India. It is known by several common names, including Sky Flower, Golden Dew Drop, Pigeon Berry and Fence Flower.

Duranta erecta variegata is a vigorous, upright growing species that matures as a large, multi stemmed shrub, or can be trained into patio standard form trees. They are are easy to grow, establish quickly, and will tolerate a wide range of conditions, including high heat.

The Lavender flowered type is the most common, with pendulant hanging clusters of slightly tubular lavender flowers, followed by long hanging streamers of bright yellow berries. The flowers and berries are a natural food source for birds, butterflies and other wildlife, but are not edible for humans. Care should be taken to not locate this plant in areas where children or pets might accidentally ingest the berry.
