Senna bicapsularis Winter, or Christmas Cassia, is a unique addition to any Southern garden. This large tree-like shrub begins producing showy, vibrant yellow blooms during winter while other attractive plants go dormant. From late Autumn to Winter, Christmas Senna erupts with exotic colors bound to keep a landscape looking lively.

While its flowers are interesting, Cassias have an unusual leaf structure that adds visual interest even when not blooming. The ultra-soft, small, round leaves of Winter Cassia are extremely delicate but beautiful. To avoid issues with this plant's soft foliage and stems as it matures, prune it regularly, encouraging branching and stability.

This plant is frequently confused with the invasive Senna pendula var. glabrata species.
Senna bicapularis a different species and is not invasive. Nonetheless, we always recommend responsible growing. The seed coating of Senna Bicapular is very hard and does not germinate easily or at all without special treatments. It is typically grown from vegetative cuttings. It is, nonetheless, always a good practice to prune all types of seed-producing plants after flowering to prevent seeds from being spread by wind and wildlife.
