Ixoras are a large genus of several hundred species of tropical flowering shrubs that are native to tropical Asia and India and widely cultivated elsewhere as additions to tropical landscapes and as potted plants.

The Maui Tricolor Ixora will mature into a low-growing, rounded shrub at about 2.5 to 3 feet. It has the typical pointed ovoid-shaped leaves of the Ixora. The foliage grows dense and tight, and the new growth is a pretty dark red bronze color.

Bright multi-shaded blooms, ranging in color from scarlet red to orange with a concentration of light yellow in the center, appear in large clusters of hundreds of small, rounded, star-shaped florets, beginning in spring to early summer, and continuing until late fall. Each stem will typically have 2 to 3 flower heads.

Plants begin to flower in mid-spring to early summer in repeating cycles throughout the warm season, with a peak cycle in early to mid-fall.

Care: When mature, plant in fertile, well-draining, acidic soil or potting media in full sun to very light shade. Water as needed to maintain consistent soil moisture, but avoid overwatering. Overly saturated plants become spotted, weak, thin, and fail to flower as expected. Feed a good quality, slow-release, bloom-boosting fertilizer initially and repeat annually in spring. Prune after flowering to control size and shape.

Indoor Growing: This tropical plant grows large, requires the full spectrum of light 4 to 6 hours daily, high humidity, and warm temperatures with at least a 10°F day/night differential. So not well-suited for the average indoor growing space.

Climate: Super King Ixora is a tropical plant and is recommended for growing in USDA Zones 9, 10, and 11. Protection from cold temperatures is required in all zones for the longest life, best appearance, and earliest flowering. Note that Zone recommendations are based on average temperatures and do not consider factors such as humidity, rainfall, or day/night temperature variations.. Condition: This product is one (1) young, starter-sized plant intended for a gardener to grow to its mature size. You may expect a starter-size plant to be well-rooted, have a root zone of approximately 4 inches in diameter, be a minimum of about 6 to 8 inches tall, and have no blooms or buds on arrival.
