Mahoe Solid Leaf Sea Hibiscus Tropical Tree Live Plant Colored Leaves Yellow Coral Flowers Starter Sz

Hibiscus tiliaceus, or Green Leaved Mahoes or Sea Hibiscus, are primarily grown for the unique, beautifully colored large heart-shaped leaves in multi-tones of dark green, olive green, bronze, and burgundy.

The Mahoe blooms randomly in warm weather with large, open, short-lived flowers that open as bright pastel, sunny yellow, and then gradually change to coral and then red before dropping away the next day.

They are exceptionally salt tolerant, so well suited for coastal planting. Hibiscus tilaceus (and/or similar species, sub-species, or cultivars) are either native or naturalized in the Pacific Island, Caribbean, Florida, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands, where they grow along the oceanfront and brackish riversides.
They tolerate a wide range of poor soil conditions and require little care or maintenance once well established.

This is an easy-to-grow tree that establishes quickly within the recommended Zone Range.

Although many gardeners grow it in other areas, it does not adapt easily to climates with short growing seasons, very hot and dry, or microclimates with consistently cool temps that seldom vary or those with extreme day/night temperature variances.

Mahoes can be adapted to be grown indoors as a large potted plant, but will eventually become too large for the space.

Cannot be shipped to Hawaii or Puerto Rico. Check local ordinances as some coastal municipalities, HOAs, Community Development Boards may have restrictions and requirements for planting this species.
